Poll of the Day

This from today's Globe and Mail:

Wilfrid Laurier University says it "recognizes the legal principle of the presumption of innocence" and therefore awarded an MBA student accused of setting up an elaborate terrorism-support network a $5,000 prize for his entrepreneurial acumen. Do you agree with the university?

The presumption of innocence is a legal concept related to trials. It does not mean that individuals and organizations cannot apply good judgment and common sense to life situations, or to consider a person guilty prior to conviction. Otherwise, it would be improper if not illegal for authorities to jail an accused prior to conviction.

It appears that the West, having rejected Christianity, is now in the process of losing its mind.

I've been trying since I started this blog to figure out how to upload photos to it. I think I finally figured it out.

Prayer of the Day - Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim, through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful hand:
Strong Deliverer, Strong Deliverer,
Be Thou still my strength and shield,
Be Thou still my strength and shield

Open Thou the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing streams doth flow;
Let the fiery cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through:
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
Feed me now and evermore,
Feed me now and evermore

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Bear me through the swelling current,
Land me safe on Canaan's side:
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever give to Thee,
I will ever give to Thee

Have a day blessed by great Jehovah-God, watching over you.

Catastrophic Climate Change: It's Getting Better All The Time!

Oh, thank-you.

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.

Thank you.

Who am I thanking?

His Royal Leftist Prince Charles.

A year or so ago, Al Gore said we had five short years to get the job done. Or, maybe it was ten.

Whatever.

I thought, OK, ten years to worry about GLOBAL WARMING !!!! and then, it will be too late. The planet will be doomed, and we can get on with enjoying what is left of our destructive, guilt-ridden carbon-stained lives.

Now, His Leftist has brought us a ray of relief. Only 18 months to go!

This from the UK Telegraph:

"Prince Charles: Eighteen months to stop climate change disaster."

I can live with that. Eighteen months, and then we'll all be happy. Doomed, but happy. Happily doomed. Doomedly happy.

And that's the way the Ball bounces.

Who Says PEI's Healthcare Is Second-Rate?

-

Who says PEI's healthcare is second-rate?

I know a patient.

He's on some meds.

They're working great.

But he needed a blood-test to see if he could continue on them.

He took the blood tests this morning.

The lab processed the results this afternoon.

The Doctor called the family at dinner-time today and gave them the results personally over the phone.

I know.

Because the family was us.

And the patient was our dog, Robbie.

And the Doctor was our Vet.

And that's the way the Ball bounces.

Princeton Prof: Fetuses are Like Plants

"In my view, fetuses that die before they're ever conscious really are a lot like plants: They're living things, but there's nothing about them that would make us think that they count morally in the way that people do."

So says Princeton philosophy professor Elizabeth Harman in an article by Thaddeus M. Baklinski.

But wait a minute. According to the Swiss, plants have rights and intrinsic worth and dignity.

Shouldn't the ungodly secular left at least give unborn humans the same presumptive rights as a dandelion?

And that's the way the Ball bounces.

You Can Drive My Car

Paul McCartney's new eco-friendly car was flown 7,000 miles from Japan, creating a carbon footprint almost 100 times bigger than if it had come by sea, equivalent to driving the car around the world six times.

But, by gosh, it's going to look so eco-friendly.

In fairness to Sir Paul, he didn't know the car, which was a gift, was going to be flown over.

We Can Work It Out.

Rice Crispies: The Not-So-Silent Scream

According to the Weekly Standard, the Swiss government has gone nuts and their brains turned to mush:

"At the request of the Swiss government, an ethics panel has weighed in on the "dignity" of plants and opined that the arbitrary killing of flora is morally wrong. This is no hoax. The concept of what could be called "plant rights" is being seriously debated.

"A few years ago the Swiss added to their national constitution a provision requiring "account to be taken of the dignity of creation when handling animals, plants and other organisms." No one knew exactly what it meant, so they asked the Swiss Federal Ethics Committee on Non-Human Biotechnology to figure it out. The resulting report, "The Dignity of Living Beings with Regard to Plants," is enough to short circuit the brain.

Indeed. And all this from a secular Europe that worships at the rights-altars of abortion and euthanasia. It seems to affirm Bill Gothard's theory of displaced conscience -- whenever man suppresses God-given conscience, the concience pops up in some other area, as in, killing unborn humans is OK, but save the whales!

You can read the whole article at The Weekly Standard.

Meanwhile, over at SDA, they are weighing in on global warming and killer cornflakes. Here's my take on how vegetable rights could morph into cereal rights:

While on the subject of not eating corn flakes, I think what they do to the rice to turn it into crispies is unnatural and cruel. How would you like to be put in an oven? When put in a bowl of milk, you can hear the plaintive cry of the rice grains as they snap, they crackle, and they pop -- and who wouldn't?

The crispification of rice violates the whole fundamental notion of rice-rights upon which Canadian society is built.

And don't get me started on Quaker Oats. How would you like to be shot from a gun?! I can still remember the sound, as a boy growing up in Peterborough, Ontario, of the cruel cannons booming and the lingering smell of blasted oats.

Financial Quote of the Day (QOTD)

From this morning's National Post:

"But at the same time, it’s hard for the market to know when a recession will end when you’re not sure if it has begun yet."

Indeed. As that great financial prognosticator, Bob Dylan, once put it:

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind.

Christian Horizons

A Christian group, Christian Horizons, has been hauled before a human rights court and found guilty of discrimination, required to pay a fine, take Soviet-style state-mandated re-education classes, etc. etc.

Same-old, same-old, in godless Ontario.

The group provides assistance to the disabled. They were not charged with discriminating against their clients. The problem was with their internal moral code -- sex outside of marriage, homosexuality, etc. were no-nos.

Which is a no-no now in Ontario and the rest of Canada, where the right to practice homosexuality is protected, but not the right to practice Christianity.

The argument is made that since the organization receives government funds, it should come under the government's sexually amoral human rights code.

"If you’re taking government money, then you are subject to government regulations which obviously prohibits discrimination."

I'll believe that the day I see the Ontario government require someone to re-hire a confessing pederast. Of course the government allows discrimination -- based on its values and views of right-and-wrong.

What is at issue is the right of persons to dissent from State-approved orthodoxies and ideologies.

The argument over receiving government funds isn't worth much. Those funds are first extracted from tax-paying citizens, including Christians, who have as much right to participate in society as anyone else. They were being paid for a service they were providing. As Christians, they have a conservative moral code. Others don't. They do.

The Tolerance crowd oozes intolerance. They just can't handle the very values they claim to espouse -- tolerance and diversity. Instead, they demand rigid conformity to their beliefs.

And that's the way the Ball bounces.

Canned Pop Comes to PEI

My days as an activist are over.

Canned pop has finally arrived on Prince Edward Island. Undercover operatives are standing down. It's a small step for man, but one that comes with a lot of fizz.

On the downside, the government slapped a big tax on each can, so I'll still be bringing in the 2-litre plastic bottles from Ontario.

Global Warming Jumps The Shark

In a blogbit I published on April 29th, I suggested authorities blame the recent rash of shark attacks off the USA on global warming. I was throwing them crumbs.

Five days later, here it is, in the U.K. Observer, dated May 4, 2008:

Surge in fatal shark attacks blamed on global warming

...."Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures. 'You'll find that some species will begin to appear in places they didn't in the past with some regularity,' he said."

You couldn't write fiction as good as this.

Could this be the moment when the global warming alarmists jumped the shark?

This just in...

Here's the screaming headline from the Canadian Press article, as it appeared in the Globe and Mail:

N.B. [New Brunswick] FLOOD LEAVES... WATER PROBLEMS

Do ya think?

It's Cold Out There, Wood-Chuck Chuckers!

According to scientists, the Earth is likely to get colder for the next 10 years, but just because the Earth is cooling, we shouldn't doubt that it's getting warmer.

Got that?

Here's the money quote: "Those natural climate variations could be stronger than the global-warming trend over the next 10-year period,'' Wood said in an interview. "Without knowing that, you might erroneously think there's no global warming going on.''

Well, yes. A cooling globe does tend to have that effect on one.

Global warming becomes more of a religion every day. We walk by faith, not by thermometers!
