The Great Debate: Does God Exist?

It became known as the Great Debate. 

In 1985 the University of California at Irvine hosted a public debate between philosopher Greg Bahnsen and atheist Gordon Stein on the topic “Does God Exist?” 

WHAT ENSUED 

Stein came prepared to cut down traditional apologetic arguments for the existence of God, but the philosopher’s approach was unexpected. Bahnsen went on the offensive and presented the Transcendental Argument for the Existence of God: the God of the Bible must exist because no other worldview makes rational sense of the universe and logic, science, and morals ultimately presuppose a theistic worldview. He explained: "The transcendental proof for God’s existence is that without Him it is impossible to prove anything."

Bahnsen takes a radically different approach than Christian philosopher/theologian William Lane Craig. By granting atheist presuppositions of laws of logic, rationality, and order in a godless universe, we cede too much -- they play the game on a field that is only rational if theism is true!

Why American Culture Is Doomed

"We don't want to offend other cultures," they quoted her as explaining.

As opposed to this:

A story for which Napier is often noted involved Hindu priests complaining to him about the prohibition of Sati by British authorities. This was the custom of burning a widow alive on the funeral pyre of her husband. As first recounted by his brother William, he replied:
"Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. The American culture is the most copied, most emulated, most imitated, most desired culture on earth. An apologetic, self-loathing culture is doomed. And that pretty much describes the West with its naive idealism concerning other cultures and its massive self-doubt concerning its own.

"But, but, but, what right does the British have to impose its culture on the Indians?"....

This attitude of moral relativism and multiculturalism has pervaded the West's thinking and is de rigeur in our school systems. Except it's not. Inevitably cultural relativists insist on imposing their own values, the things that matter to them, on the rest of us. Intolerance in the name of diversity.

Radical Islam may be evil, but at least it's self-confident.

Memo to Federal Gov't: I Want My Money Back

The government also is projecting it will spend at least another $850-million in the current 2012-13 fiscal year on accumulated severance payouts (including for resignation and retirement) owed to federal employees as per collective agreements signed by successive governments over several years.

Gutless federal governments meet greedy public sector unions.

An abuse of tax-payers.

De-unionize public sector workers now.

The Eaton's Shooter -- Why The Foot-Dragging On The Perp's Description?

You've seen it portrayed a hundred times. A hit goes down. Police sirens blare. Within minutes a description hits the airwaves. The shooter's on the run and the police and public, aided by the media, are on the lookout!

But that's fiction. In 21st cc. Toronto it takes about a day to figure out how to issue a press release on what the perp looks like.

Why the foot dragging?

Why haven't the police issued a description of the shooter and why haven't the media asked why they haven't? Working on polishing a PC press release? Want to give the guy a fightin' chance to get away? Don't want to offend the sensibilities of the white community (assuming he's white)?

One thing seems certain. The safety and security of the community is not the paramount concern in 21st cc. Toronto police work.

Shame on the Toronto police, and shame on a complicit media.
