Islam is a political movement as much as a religion. The West happily accepts the idea of Muslim nations, but is aghast at the idea that a nation would define itself as Christian. It has been the leftist agenda of western Christian nations to offically de-Christianize, i.e., secularize, themselves. Must. Not. Offend.
Problem is, secular western ideology is 'way too soft and decadent to stand up to the hard ideology of Islam. It takes discipline, character, principle, etc. -- the kind that, historically, emanate from more robustly Christian cultures.
One day, we may reconsider our (the West's) present-day loathing of the Crusades. The view of these is 'way too one-sided. The Muslims were clearly the original aggressors. If they had not been stopped, Europe would have fallen centuries ago, and the world would be unimaginatively different than it is now -- no USA, no Canada, no Australia, New Zealand, etc. as we know them.
