Great Moments in Climate Change: Caspar and the Jesus Paper, August 11, 2008

More hockey stick schenanigans.

Excerpt:
With the replication of the hockey stick in tatters, reasonable people might have expected some sort of pause in the political momentum. Seasoned observers of the climate scene, however, will be unsurprised to hear that global warming eminences grises like Sir John Houghton and Michael Mann continued to cite the Wahl and Amman papers despite the CC paper being in publishing limbo and the GRL paper being apparently dead and buried. The Wahl and Amman press release was not withdrawn either.
Events soon took another surprising turn….
Fascinating reading from the author of the Hockey Stick Illusion.

It's About Time: Canada Outlaws Glacial Melting

English: Map of Canada

Canada's glaciers are melting, spewing H2O pollutants into the environment. Scientists predict that if left unchecked this will wreak havoc with our precious bodily fluids.

The good news is that Canada is acting to stop indiscriminate and wanton dumping of the pollutant H2O into the environment.

Climate Change and the "Hopelessly Flawed Computer Models"

Global mean surface temperature difference fro...

By Christopher Booker 5:30PM BST 17 May 2014 The Telegraph
But the fact is that it has long been obvious to any dispassionate observer that, as global temperatures have so dismally failed to rise as they predicted, those computer models on which the whole theory rested were hopelessly flawed. Equally, it has long been clear, as we saw with “Climategate”, that the orthodox establishment will stop at nothing to protect its deluded belief system from criticism.
Meanwhile, the climate science cabal is doubling-down on their best-case worst-case predictions. One can only hope their projections are discredited before they manage to ruin Western economies and consign a generation of developing nations to continued poverty.

In Praise of Marriage

And this breakdown of marriage most hurts the least well-off. A leading indicator of whether someone will know poverty or prosperity is whether, growing up, he or she knew the love and security of having a married mother and father.
Maybe God knew what he was doing. Christ certainly thought so.

And that's the way the Ball bounces.

Climate Scare of the Day: A Freudian Ice-Slip?

WASHINGTON --
The huge West Antarctic ice sheet is slowly collapsing, and two groups of scientists say the melting is now an unstoppable event.
What will become of the nation's capital?
It will move upstream?
"We do have at least a century to prepare," says Ekwurzel, "and in the case of the worst-case scenario, maybe a couple centuries. We should plan on one to four feet of sea-level rise happening over the course of this century, as a conservative estimate."
Did you notice the Freudian slip? Read that again slowly… "a century to prepare, and in the worst-case scenario… a couple centuries". Shouldn't the best-case scenario be the one that will do the least damage over the most time? Not if you are a climate alarmist. As they have made abundantly clear through "nature tricks" "hide the declines", suppression of dissent, and lawfare (hello, Mark Steyn), the best-case scenario is the catastrophic one.

And that's the way the slip, slidin' away Ball bounces.

Great Moments in Climate Change: Matt Ridley, November 1, 2011

Excerpt:
The problem is that you can accept all the basic tenets of greenhouse physics and still conclude that the threat of a dangerously large warming is so improbable as to be negligible, while the threat of real harm from climate-mitigation policies is already so high as to be worrying, that the cure is proving far worse than the disease is ever likely to be. Or as I put it once, we may be putting a tourniquet round our necks to stop a nosebleed.
In other words, it's not the science, it's the politics.

It is, as they say, a "must read".

American Illiteracy: Read this!

This is from an American school's Dean of Students:
Our mission is to promote positive behavior, enhance self esteem, give guidance, support and direction. We counsel, build relationships and constantly redirect. Our reward system is simple, students who earn 70,80, 90 and 100% their possible total points will be able to participate in reward programs. The reward programs include; pizza parties, dress downs, extra-curriculum gym activities, field trips and other specials. Other programs such as panther bucks and snack shack dollars are offer to all students on a daily basis.
The work this school is trying to accomplish is laudable, but this is sad. The fact it's posted on the school's website, where they are putting their best foot forward, leaves me shaking my head.

Here's a re-write, courtesy of the Ball Bounces.
Our mission is to promote positive behavior among students and enhance their self esteem, while giving guidance, support and direction. We counsel, build relationships, and redirect negative student behaviors towards positive goals. Our reward system is simple: students who earn 70-100% of possible points get to participate. The reward programs include: pizza parties, dress downs, extra-curriculal gym activities, field trips, and other specials. Other programs, such as panther bucks and snack shack dollars, are offered to all students on a daily basis.
I'm glad I was taught by a squaresville school system that prioritized the three Rs over self-esteem.

And that's the way the Ball bounces.
