American Illiteracy: Read this!

This is from an American school's Dean of Students:
Our mission is to promote positive behavior, enhance self esteem, give guidance, support and direction. We counsel, build relationships and constantly redirect. Our reward system is simple, students who earn 70,80, 90 and 100% their possible total points will be able to participate in reward programs. The reward programs include; pizza parties, dress downs, extra-curriculum gym activities, field trips and other specials. Other programs such as panther bucks and snack shack dollars are offer to all students on a daily basis.
The work this school is trying to accomplish is laudable, but this is sad. The fact it's posted on the school's website, where they are putting their best foot forward, leaves me shaking my head.

Here's a re-write, courtesy of the Ball Bounces.
Our mission is to promote positive behavior among students and enhance their self esteem, while giving guidance, support and direction. We counsel, build relationships, and redirect negative student behaviors towards positive goals. Our reward system is simple: students who earn 70-100% of possible points get to participate. The reward programs include: pizza parties, dress downs, extra-curriculal gym activities, field trips, and other specials. Other programs, such as panther bucks and snack shack dollars, are offered to all students on a daily basis.
I'm glad I was taught by a squaresville school system that prioritized the three Rs over self-esteem.

And that's the way the Ball bounces.
