The Occupyification of St. Paul's Cathedral

St Paul's CathedralImage by jimmyharris via Flickr
St. Paul's Cathedral supports the Occupiers !!!  (in a wish-you'd-all-go-away-now kind of way).

Meanwhile, a protester insists that Jesus would be outside with them (hopefully without the defecating-on-peoples' doorsteps, flashing, and pleas-for-condoms bits).

The protesters do fit the profile of the kinds of people Jesus sought to win and save, though...

Who's Fault Is It BC Alberta and Ontario are growing and Quebec Is Not?

Ontario, BC, and Alberta communities are seriously under-represented in Parliament. Parliament feels the need to tip-toe around the issue because Quebec will lose clout if the government does the right thing and increases representation in these provinces.

Question for Quebec:  Whose fault is it that other provinces are growing and you are not?

Sunday Psalm: 11 -- In The Lord I Put My Trust

New King James Version                               Image via Wikipedia
Psalm 11

 1 In the LORD I put my trust;
         How can you say to my soul,
         “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?
 2 For look! The wicked bend their bow,
         They make ready their arrow on the string,
         That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
 3 If the foundations are destroyed,
         What can the righteous do?

 4 The LORD is in His holy temple,
         The LORD’s throne is in heaven;
         His eyes behold,
         His eyelids test the sons of men.
 5 The LORD tests the righteous,
         But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
 6 Upon the wicked He will rain coals;
         Fire and brimstone and a burning wind
         Shall be the portion of their cup.

 7 For the LORD is righteous,
         He loves righteousness;
         His countenance beholds the upright.[a

New King James Version (NKJV)Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.

A key interpretive issue with this psalm is how far the quotation in the first paragraph goes. Compare the above with the NASB below:

 1 In the LORD I take refuge;
How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain;
2 For, behold, the wicked bend the bow,
They [a]make ready their arrow upon the string
To shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.
3 If the foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?”

I favour the latter interpretation. Have a restful day.

Barbara Kay's Insights Into The Supremes InSite Ruling

The Canadian Supreme Court recently added being a drug addict to its list of human rights. They argued that drug addiction is merely a sickness rather than a moral failing and that drug addicts are sub-human (in that they lack willpower and the ability to make rational choices).

The left offered its usual hearty hear! hear! Facts have triumphed over ideology. In fact, it appears that ideology -- leftist ideology -- was slathered on rather thick in this ruling.

While no-one wishes drug addicts further harm neither do we wish to see their addiction trivialized as a mere illness nor supported in perpetuity by government as a fundamental human right. As for the Supremes pronouncements that InSite "saves lives" (which Barbara Kay challenges), I wonder if a study was done on the criminal harm committed by drug addicts being aided and abetted by InSite -- in which case, shouldn't the motto be "InSite causes harm"?

Barbara Kay offers her insights.

Sunday Psalm: 10 -- God Gives Courage

Virtudes, de Rafael, na Stanza della Segnatura...Image via Wikipedia
Psalm 10 - A Prayer for Justice

    Why are you so far away, O Lord?
      Why do you hide yourself when we are in trouble?
 2 The wicked are proud and persecute the poor;
      catch them in the traps they have made.

 3 The wicked are proud of their evil desires;
      the greedy curse and reject the Lord.
 4 The wicked do not care about the Lord;
      in their pride they think that God doesn't matter.

 5 The wicked succeed in everything.
      They cannot understand God's judgments;
      they sneer at their enemies.
 6 They say to themselves,
         We will never fail;
      we will never be in trouble.

 7 Their speech is filled with curses, lies, and threats;
      they are quick to speak hateful, evil words.

 8 They hide themselves in the villages,
      waiting to murder innocent people.
   They spy on their helpless victims;
    9 they wait in their hiding place like lions.
   They lie in wait for the poor;
      they catch them in their traps and drag them away.

 10 The helpless victims lie crushed;
      brute strength has defeated them.
 11 The wicked say to themselves,
         God doesn't care!
      He has closed his eyes and will never see me!

 12 O Lord, punish those wicked people!
      Remember those who are suffering!
 13 How can the wicked despise God
      and say to themselves,
         He will not punish me?

 14 But you do see; you take notice of trouble and suffering
      and are always ready to help.
   The helpless commit themselves to you;
      you have always helped the needy.

 15 Break the power of wicked and evil people;
      punish them for the wrong they have done
      until they do it no more.

 16 The Lord is king forever and ever.
      Those who worship other gods
      will vanish from his land.

 17 You will listen, O Lord, to the prayers of the lowly;
      you will give them courage.
 18 You will hear the cries of the oppressed and the orphans;
      you will judge in their favor,
      so that mortal men may cause terror no more.

History is pressing on to its fulfillment -- the kingdom reign of God in Christ. So, lean in, and press on!

Is Islam Christ-Friendly?

Is Islam Christ-friendly, as its proponents insist?

Apparently not. Being a true friend of Christ can get you killed. As Christians, we need to be prepared to die. Most of us will never experience martyrdom, but the possibility comes with the territory.

If this guy was gay, the CBC would be all over it. But he's just another Christian, so don't expect them to get too excited. I'll be happily surprised if they do. The photo headline above was from Fox News.

Lord, have mercy on this man and on his family -- and on his persecutors too.

BC Ferries

Flag of British Columbia                        Image via Wikipedia
"In his eight years at the helm of the [BC] ferry corporation, David Hahn has overseen a meteoric rise in ferry fares coupled with a devastating plunge in ridership and revenue."

Sounds about right. I'm guessing the ferry corporation is unionized. Expect less for more (hello, TTC) in the years ahead as western economies retrench and government/big unions are among the last holdouts against reality.

If things get really bad, expect civil unrest. All those de-moralized socialized hordes relying on government-provided entitlements have no intention of cutting back or being the ones to pay for government over-spending excesses. That puts the entire weight of responsibility on the rest of us.

Carbon Credits: Plant A Tree, Starve A Human

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (Finance Minister of Niger...                    Image via Wikipedia
From their website, slathered in green righteousness:
The New Forests Company is a UK-based sustainable and socially responsible forestry company with established, rapidly growing plantations and the prospect of a diversified product base for local and regional export markets which will deliver both attractive returns to investors and significant social and environmental benefits.
From InfoWars.Com:
Armed troops acting on behalf of a British carbon trading company backed by the World Bank burned houses to the ground and killed children to evict Ugandans from their homes in the name of seizing land to protect against “global warming,” a shocking illustration of how the climate change con is a barbarian form of neo-colonialism.
The evictions were ordered by New Forests Company, an outfit that seizes land in Africa to grow trees then sells the “carbon credits” on to transnational corporations. The company is backed by the World Bank and HSBC. Its Board of Directors includes HSBC Managing Director Sajjad Sabur, as well as other former Goldman Sachs investment bankers.
The company claims residents of Kicucula left in a “peaceful” and “voluntary” manner, and yet the people tell a story of terror and bloodshed.
Villagers told of how armed “security forces” stormed their village and torched houses, burning an eight-year-child to death as they threatened to murder anyone who resisted while beating others.
“We were in church,” recalled Jean-Marie Tushabe, 26, a father of two. “I heard bullets being shot into the air.”
“Cars were coming with police,” Mr. Tushabe said, sitting among the ruins of his old home. “They headed straight to the houses. They took our plates, cups, mattresses, bed, pillows. Then we saw them getting a matchbox out of their pockets.”
“But in this case, the government and the company said the settlers were illegal and evicted for a good cause: to protect the environment and help fight global warming,” reports the New York Times
Another leftist initiative gone horribly bad. When it comes to green, the poorest of the poor don't count, because, when it comes to leftist initiatives toward the third world, it's not about them, it's about us. Always.

Sunday Psalm: 9 - The Lord Is King Forever!

Dormition Church, situated on the modern "...                    Image via Wikipedia

Psalm 9

Thanksgiving to God for His Justice[a]
    I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
      I will tell of all the wonderful things you have done.
 2 I will sing with joy because of you.
      I will sing praise to you, Almighty God.

 3 My enemies turn back when you appear;
      they fall down and die.
 4 You are fair and honest in your judgments,
      and you have judged in my favor.

 5 You have condemned the heathen
      and destroyed the wicked;
      they will be remembered no more.
 6 Our enemies are finished forever;
      you have destroyed their cities,
      and they are completely forgotten.

 7 But the Lord is king forever;
      he has set up his throne for judgment.
 8 He rules the world with righteousness;
      he judges the nations with justice.

 9 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
      a place of safety in times of trouble.
 10 Those who know you, Lord, will trust you;
      you do not abandon anyone who comes to you.

 11 Sing praise to the Lord, who rules in Zion!
      Tell every nation what he has done!
 12 God remembers those who suffer;
      he does not forget their cry,
      and he punishes those who wrong them.

 13 (A)Be merciful to me, O Lord!
      See the sufferings my enemies cause me!
   Rescue me from death, O Lord,
    14 that I may stand before the people of Jerusalem
      and tell them all the things for which I praise you.
   I will rejoice because you saved me.

 15 The heathen have dug a pit and fallen in;
      they have been caught in their own trap.
 16 The Lord has revealed himself by his righteous judgments,
      and the wicked are trapped by their own deeds.

 17 Death is the destiny of all the wicked,
      of all those who reject God.
 18 The needy will not always be neglected;
      the hope of the poor will not be crushed forever.

 19 Come, Lord! Do not let anyone defy you!
      Bring the heathen before you
      and pronounce judgment on them.
 20 Make them afraid, O Lord;
      make them know that they are only mortal beings.

Have a restful, joyful day as God's praise circles the globe this day.

Canadian Adjudicator To Refugee Claimant: "Not Catholic Enough"

Madonna between Ss John the Baptist and FrancisImage by Lawrence OP via Flickr
You're a refugee claimant. You're in a refugee claimant review. You're nervous. You're in a new country in the midst of strange people who seemingly hold life-or-death powers over you. You're sweating. You're a Christian. You're asked who the mother of Mary the mother of Jesus was, and who the mother of John the Baptist was.

Quick now, what's your answer? (please post in comments without looking at other comments' answers)

If you balked, you may be a Christian, but, in the eyes of the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB), not Christian enough.

He knew Mary was Jesus’ mother and that John baptized him but not the names of Mary’s and John’s mothers; correctly answered questions about the rosary and the seven sacraments; named books of the Old Testament but was uncertain what they were about; failed to note that 2009 was dedicated to St. Paul by the Catholic Church, and gave other answers that fell short of Ms. Andrachuk’s expectations.
“I find, on a balance of probabilities, that the claimant is not and never was a genuine practicing Roman Catholic,” Ms. Andrachuk wrote. “I find that the claimant’s level of knowledge of the Catholic faith is not commensurate with someone who has been a Roman Catholic for three years.”

Fortunately a Canadian court had the good sense to strike down this ruling.

IRB adjudicator rebuked by court for refusing man who failed Catholic ‘trivia’

The EU goes for the carbon taxes jugular.
British Airways faces a bill of nearly €50m, the highest of any airline, when carriers around the world are brought into the European Union’s carbon emissions trading scheme next year....
The airline industry’s total bill is expected to be €1.1bn ($1.5bn) at today’s carbon prices, the study says. The whole sector may only make a $4bn profit this year, the International Air Transport Association has forecast....
The findings come amid a fierce row over the EU’s move to make any airline flying into and within the bloc pay for pollution.
Memo to the EU and Financial Times: Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.

Costs will be passed on to customers, because corporations do not pay taxes -- consumers do. This will harm the struggling world economy and put yet more money in big-government hands. The world takes another notch downward, thanks to the statist left.

Sunday Psalm: 8 - The Lord's Excellent Name

Psalm 1, Verse 1 and 2 in Biblia Hebraica Stut...Image via Wikipedia
Psalm 8
To the Chief Musician. On the instrument of Gath.[a] A Psalm of David.
 1 O LORD, our Lord,
         How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
         Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

 2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
         You have ordained strength,
         Because of Your enemies,
         That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

 3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
         The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
 4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
         And the son of man that You visit him?
 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels,[b]
         And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

 6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
         You have put all things under his feet,
 7 All sheep and oxen—
         Even the beasts of the field,
 8 The birds of the air,
         And the fish of the sea
         That pass through the paths of the seas.

 9 O LORD, our Lord,
         How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

George Bush, War Criminal "Has No Formal Training In Education Theory"!!!

Concerning the Tyndale Debacle (see posts below for context).

Overheard on a Tyndale blog: "... why is Mr. Bush speaking on Christian higher education? So far as I am aware, all of Mr. Bush’s higher education was from private, secular American universities. He has no formal training in education theory..."

Ah, yes. The academy had done its job. You're either with us, or you have nothing to say.  As I recall, Jesus and his main-guy Peter had no formal degrees either...

Meanwhile, here is a voice of sweet reason (which was not followed):
First of all, it sounds like a donor of Tyndale, Prem Watsa, is arranging and will be funding the breakfast (if you don’t know who Prem is, you may want to Google him). It’s very likely that Tyndale did not initiate this, and that Prem wanted to do this to bring awareness to Tyndale and Christian Higher Education among his colleagues and potential supporters in Toronto. PersonallyI think it would be rude and irrational to turn down such a generous opportunity.
Rude and irrational indeed. Way to go, "Amy".

The Tyndale-Bush Debacle: Devilish Spawn vs. "Our Lovely School"

To the President of Tyndale
16th September 2011
Dear sir:
I just returned from an overseas trip and am dismayed (as a graduate of the Ontario Theological Seminary, as Tyndale use to be called) to be informed about an ugly rumour being spread against my alma mater.
Someone said that the mass murderer George Bush, whose war in Iraq killed, injured and displaced over 1,000,000 people while destroying the country’s infrastructure and increasing child poverty and death had been invited to our school.
Obviously, anyone who takes the Scripture seriously would never be so blasphemous to mistake George Bush as a Christian because, as Jesus said, “by their fruit you will know them.”
I will continue, in the midst of my jet lag to try to find out who is spreading this terrible rumor about Tyndale inviting such a devilish spawn to our lovely school
Yours truly
Thomas Corbett
It's hard to know where to start with a letter like this. There's no indication it was meant to be self-satirizing. I would like to think it was written by some fiendish conservative to make the left look ridiculous, but there's no indication of that, either. It appears this is where the fevered leftist brain lands after a long trip abroad. Memo to self: never try to write a cutesy blogpost while jet-lagged. Memo to Thomas: get some sleep.

* * *

As a Tyndale alumnus, I can only say the Tyndale debacle is sad, sad, sad. The damage done will take years to recover from.

PS: I can only assume that that growly old war-monger Winston Churchill would have been chased off campus, while Neville "peace in our time" Chamberlain would have been welcomed with open arms.

Tyndale University's "Scheduling Conflict" Bad Hair Day

Toronto's Tyndale University snags a world figure -- George W. Bush -- for what was to be the first in a series of prominent speakers who would raise Tyndale's public profile and raise funds for the self-financed institution. Quite a coup! Then the coup came undone due to a coup "scheduling conflict".

sat. on/ Scheduling conflict? Don't the respective parties have appointment calendars? I mean, I've got a car appointment scheduled for next Wednesday at 10 am, and there it is, right in my calendar, colour-coded green. Does this mean George W. Bush, former leader of the free world, cannot afford calendar software??!!  If so, this means things are much worse in the US than people are letting on!! /sat. off

Michael Coren called Tyndale to get to the bottom of it all and Michael Coren is not a happy man. "It sounds like she might not be telling [me] the truth".

Indeed. (Of course, the Canadian financier organizing the event on Tyndale's behalf may have realized the way the (leftist) four strong winds were blowing, and decided to call it off -- he may have passed on to Tyndale a gentle "scheduling conflict" excuse, in which case,  all they can do is pass on the excuse they were given.

Ten-minute Michael Coren video well-worth watching.

PS: Pastor Joe Boot of Westminster Chapel is my newest hero for telling it like it is. I also liked the Tyndale English prof, but he was in an impossible position.

"Tyndale Is Hosting A War Criminal" -- The Poster

"Tyndale Is Hosting A War Criminal". Well, there you have it. That's that then.

In addition to being a War Criminal, Bush is referred to as the author of policies which resulted in the "murder of thousands". The last time I checked, soldiers were not murderers. Perhaps they are thinking of revenge killings done by the Afghanistan and Iraqi authorities on their citizens? Perhaps they meant deaths rather than murders? But, no, they are critical thinkers, so it can't be sloppy writing.

And what's with this war criminal charge? Was the President ever tried, even in a pseudo-leftist court and convicted? Or is this just more hot rhetoric on the part of the critical thinkers at Tyndale?

I am an alumnus of Tyndale. It used to be conservative. It is conservative no more.

"Equitable And Inclusive" -- This Is What It Gets You In Ontario's School System

Tanzania Civil Society Leaders Present Their C...               Image via Wikipedia
While flipping through his six-year-old son’s new student planner Monday night, Jaak Purres was shocked to see some pretty heavy words jump out at him: sex worker, female genital mutilation, Palestinian solidarity.
Most of them were plotted on a calendar marking “Days of Significance” — International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers (Dec 17), the International Day of Zero-Tolerance on Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation (Feb. 6). But their mere presence in a book stuffed in his son’s backpack and carried to and from his Grade 2 class, set off alarm bells for Mr. Purres, who sends his child to school in Toronto’s Bathurst and Lawrence area.
In what almost amounts to leftist self-parody, the father in the article is totally OK with the agenda being presented in Ontario public schools; his only concern is that his six year old son may not be up to it yet.

* * *

"Equitable and Inclusive". What gets stuffed into this? Whatever those who hold the reins of power like and believe in. What gets inequitably omitted and non-inclusively excluded? Whatever they happen to dislike. What is presented as equitable justice and inclusion is really nothing more than an act of raw, agenda-driven power. Palestinian solidarity? Why not solidarity with the Jews, whom the Arabs want to drive into the sea? Why not solidarity with the Christians, whom the Muslims are persecuting around the world and driving from their ancestral countries? Maybe the school board has such days, but I doubt it.

Parents who care about what their children are being taught should be vigilant.

Update: Anon1152: I've changed the picture.

Tyndale University Disinvites George Bush In Leftist Anti-Free-Speech Triumph

Official photograph portrait of former U.S. Pr...                       Image via Wikipedia
Due to the actions of a left-wing pressure group Toronto's Tyndale University has cancelled(*) a scheduled fund-raising appearance by US President George W. Bush.

Bush, among other things, did more to quietly save lives in Africa by funding the fight against HIV/AIDS than any previous President but the leftists chose to characterize him as a run-of-the-mill War Criminal (apparently the presumption of innocence doesn't apply when a conservative is on the receiving end of a leftist accusation).

This is sad.

Big-tent inclusive and welcoming Tyndale, of which I am an alumnus, has suddenly become a smaller place.

File this under: exclusion, intimidation, intolerance, not to mention extremely ungracious behaviour.

(*) Actually, a "scheduling conflict" arose  and "neither side is talking", which makes this worse -- a Christian institution apparently engaging in euphemistic obfuscation.

Infanticide, Anyone?

Cropped version of File:Pierre_Elliot_Trudeau.jpgImage via Wikipedia
This is what the finest legal minds in the country come up with. This is the kind of ruling we get from the people who rule us and Parliament via the exercise of Charter powers. This is what our intellectual and moral betters come up with.

Infanticide, anyone?

And what's up with the "especially mothers without support" justification. Didn't we used to have an institution that handled that? Let's see. Sifting through the memory bank. Oh, yeah. It was called, almost got it, on the tip of my tongue... marriage.  With no sex before.

Trudeau's Canada broke marriage between a man and a woman as a socially necessary contract and constraint and with it has come the justification for abortion and infanticide. Funny how all the rights we have granted ourselves -- including gay rights -- have come at the natural rights of children to life and a father and mother's love, care, and protection.

Conservatism stresses individual responsibility -- which includes not over-spending, honesty, and belt-tightening when necessary. It is the opposite of an entitlement (as in, "I'm entitled to your money regardless of the costs or consequences") mentality.

The USA's federal government has seemingly lost all economic moral and ethical sense. A nation ruled by liberal fantasies regarding the creation and preservation of wealth is a nation doomed.

The USA is losing the virtues that made it a great nation.

Sunday Psalm: 7 -- God protects me like a shield

a page from Yiddish-Hebrew-Latin-German dictionary                    Image via Wikipedia
Psalm 7 - New Century Version (NCV)

A Prayer for Fairness - A shiggaion of David which he sang to the Lord about Cush, from the tribe of Benjamin.

 1 Lord my God, I trust in you for protection.
       Save me and rescue me
       from those who are chasing me.
 2 Otherwise, like a lion they will tear me apart.
       They will rip me to pieces, and no one can save me.

 3 Lord my God, what have I done?
       Have my hands done something wrong?
 4 Have I done wrong to my friend
       or stolen without reason from my enemy?
 5 If I have, let my enemy chase me and capture me.
       Let him trample me into the dust
       and bury me in the ground.
                         Selah

 6 Lord, rise up in your anger;
       stand up against my enemies' anger.
       Get up and demand fairness.
 7 Gather the nations around you
       and rule them from above.
 8 Lord, judge the people.
       Lord, defend me because I am right,
       because I have done no wrong, God Most High.
 9 God, you do what is right.
       You know our thoughts and feelings.
    Stop those wicked actions done by evil people,
       and help those who do what is right.

 10 God protects me like a shield;
       he saves those whose hearts are right.
 11 God judges by what is right,
       and God is always ready to punish the wicked.
 12 If they do not change their lives,
       God will sharpen his sword;
       he will string his bow and take aim.
 13 He has prepared his deadly weapons;
       he has made his flaming arrows.

 14 There are people who think up evil
       and plan trouble and tell lies.
 15 They dig a hole to trap others,
       but they will fall into it themselves.
 16 They will get themselves into trouble;
       the violence they cause will hurt only themselves.

 17 I praise the Lord because he does what is right.
       I sing praises to the Lord Most High.

Have a great day!
