"Equitable And Inclusive" -- This Is What It Gets You In Ontario's School System

Tanzania Civil Society Leaders Present Their C...               Image via Wikipedia
While flipping through his six-year-old son’s new student planner Monday night, Jaak Purres was shocked to see some pretty heavy words jump out at him: sex worker, female genital mutilation, Palestinian solidarity.
Most of them were plotted on a calendar marking “Days of Significance” — International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers (Dec 17), the International Day of Zero-Tolerance on Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation (Feb. 6). But their mere presence in a book stuffed in his son’s backpack and carried to and from his Grade 2 class, set off alarm bells for Mr. Purres, who sends his child to school in Toronto’s Bathurst and Lawrence area.
In what almost amounts to leftist self-parody, the father in the article is totally OK with the agenda being presented in Ontario public schools; his only concern is that his six year old son may not be up to it yet.

"Equitable and Inclusive". What gets stuffed into this? Whatever those who hold the reins of power like and believe in. What gets inequitably omitted and non-inclusively excluded? Whatever they happen to dislike. What is presented as equitable justice and inclusion is really nothing more than an act of raw, agenda-driven power. Palestinian solidarity? Why not solidarity with the Jews, whom the Arabs want to drive into the sea? Why not solidarity with the Christians, whom the Muslims are persecuting around the world and driving from their ancestral countries? Maybe the school board has such days, but I doubt it.

Parents who care about what their children are being taught should be vigilant.

Update: Anon1152: I've changed the picture.

I rarely paid attention to things written on Calendars when I was young. I still have trouble paying attention to important dates. I'm sure I saw (but never asked about) "Simcoe day." But I digress. I suggest you provide other quotes from the article or from elsewhere. Otherwise, it looks as if you're against being AGAINST "female genital mutilation" and FOR "violence against sex workers."

It's fine to say: ""Equitable and Inclusive". What gets stuffed into this? Whatever those who hold the reins of power like and believe in. What gets inequitably omitted and non-inclusively excluded? Whatever they happen to dislike." I agree with that. But is your complaint that this can and/or does happen, or is your complaint that you (and those you agree with) are not the ones with power over what information is disseminated?

By the way, having a picture of a map showing high prevalences of female genital mutilation combined with your title "'Equitable and Inclusive -- This is What it Gets you in the Ontario School System'" is a tad misleading. Especially if I read your post and find out that the complaint is that the Ontario School System has a specific day to focus on "zero tolerance of female genital mutilation" (which does not mean that for 364.25 days of the year, they have less than zero tolerance).

A quick glance at this post suggests that the Ontario School System is either in favour of or complicit with FGM, and the details of the post itself--that is, when you get into the details about what the Ontario School System says-- indicate the exact opposite.

1152: I agree with your criticisms about this post.

The point is simply that it is a one-sided agenda. Plus, I disagree that public school is the place to indoctrinate kids in strident leftist equity/inclusivity ideology.

The problem with the term "sex worker" is it is morally neutral. That in itself is agenda-driven. The time-honoured word is prostitute -- and this has a moral connotation, which prostitution does have.

What will one day be taught in Ontario public schools is this: "you too may grow up and decide to be a sex-worker and that's OK because we are an inclusive, equitable society!"

Only liberals and leftists want their kids, their wives, their mothers to be "sex-workers".

Wow. Thank you for changing the picture. I didn't expect that.

"Only liberals and leftists want their kids, their wives, their mothers to be 'sex-workers'."

I find that hard to believe. Especially if one of the issues with the Calendar is an exhortation to "end violence against sex workers". The exhortation, and even the euphemism, is, I think, quite compatible with Christ's teachings...

e.g.,
Luke 6:37
Matthew 7:1-2
John 8:1-11

I was going to quote directly. I hate just throwing out chapter and verse. Especially since I'm not my self "well versed", and especially since I'm the sort of person who might write down a wrong number. I hope you don't mind. I have to run at the moment. (Wedding to attend).

1152: Of course I am using mild sarcasm but the point is the leftist liberals/ndp want to rehabilitate prostitution and make "sex worker" an honourable, legitimate job choice.

In Germany, it is treated as just another job, and a woman can potentially lose her EI benefits if an opening comes up and she refuses to apply/take the job.

"... nothing intellectually compelling or challenging.. bald assertions coupled to superstition... woefully pathetic"
