Infanticide, Anyone?

Cropped version of File:Pierre_Elliot_Trudeau.jpgImage via Wikipedia
This is what the finest legal minds in the country come up with. This is the kind of ruling we get from the people who rule us and Parliament via the exercise of Charter powers. This is what our intellectual and moral betters come up with.

Infanticide, anyone?

And what's up with the "especially mothers without support" justification. Didn't we used to have an institution that handled that? Let's see. Sifting through the memory bank. Oh, yeah. It was called, almost got it, on the tip of my tongue... marriage.  With no sex before.

Trudeau's Canada broke marriage between a man and a woman as a socially necessary contract and constraint and with it has come the justification for abortion and infanticide. Funny how all the rights we have granted ourselves -- including gay rights -- have come at the natural rights of children to life and a father and mother's love, care, and protection.

OK. I would be exaggerating if I said "NO ONE is FOR infanticide." The world is a big and crowded place. You can find people in favour or against many things. But... I'm sure the vast majority of us are against infanticide. Even in the midst of the worst diaper-changes or baby-sitting-moments. For the record, I want to say that, based on the information I have now, I... question this ruling.

That said, I know that court cases often involve far more details than appear in a newspaper article or blog post. I've tried finding the original decision to read (by googling quotes from the decision). Thus far, I've only found... news articles and blog posts on the decision. I hope to find the original decision to read in the near future. This is the sort of blog post/article that makes me want to look into the details.

One set of details that I haven't explored includes the text of Steyn's book "America Alone". I did read the intro some time ago (in a book store). One passage stood out. I'm going to quote it without further commentary. I'm sure many people will think I'm bringing up something written by Steyn that doesn't need to be reconciled with his concern about "fourth trimester" abortions. I'm not so sure. Here it is:

"...why did Bosnia collapse into the worst slaughter in Europe since World War Two? In the thirty years before the meltdown, Bosnian Serbs had declined from 43 percent to 31 percent of the population, while Bosnian Muslims had increased from 26 to 44 percent. In a democratic age, you can't buck demography--except through civil war. The Serbs figured that out--as other Continentals will in the years ahead: if you can't outbreed the enemy, cull 'em. The problem Europe faces is that Bosnia's demographic profile is now the model for the entire continent."

"... nothing intellectually compelling or challenging.. bald assertions coupled to superstition... woefully pathetic"
