What's Wrong With This Picture?

For the last eight years Foreign Affairs has formally advised Canadians to stay out of Gaza.

Many Canadians have chosen to ignore these warnings.

As a result, since June 2007 Canada has launched not one or two or three but six operations to get one hundred and fifty five Canadians out of Gaza. I assume that these efforts are paid for by taxpayers and that the government is not reimbursed for its efforts.

If so, my question is this: who are these people, and why are we paying to assist in their removal from Gaza when they have been warned to stay out?

I'm guessing many of the Canadians are dual citizens.

It's just like us picking up the dual Canadian-Lebanese citizens to escape from the conflict in Lebanon. Most returned after the fighting stopped.

When our daughter was studying in eastern Europe and the Ukrane (next door, so to speak) got interesting, our reaction was to ask our daughter what plans she had to get out if the situation got too interesting. We took it for granted it was her - and our - responsibility to monitor the situation and have a contingency plan. Obviously, some plans are easier to organize than others, but the principle remains the same.

He would do the will of his Father.
