Here's A Good One...

Two York University students from Nigeria have been charged with fraud after someone made off with $115,000 in unauthorized withdrawals from a TD Bank account.

According to the National Post, someone threatened a TD employee working at a Pickering branch with death and received confidential banking information from her.

Police tracked the suspects to a Toronto home, raided the place, and seized thousands of blank business cheques, high-end printers and counterfeit Canada Post stamps. They also found dozens of business cheques believed stolen, letters to be mass-mailed regarding a fake lottery win, and personal information from thousands of people across the country and in the U.S.

It's the Nigerian scam imported to Canada.

Ah, the joys of Canadian multiculturalism.

You know, the more I read your posts the more clear it is that you are one serious racist dude! If it's not the environment (which you mistakenly think means 'weather') then it's "multiculturalism" or science.

I just love that religious tolerance! :)

Oh yeah - that was Joe Agnost posting before.

Joe Agnost.

Ok Joe.So you think in the name of racial fairness we should keep letting in the type of people who threaten others and scam money from institutions? All this whilst posing as students and committing mail fraud?

You are either very egalitarian or seriously out of touch.

You see racism, while most see undesirable people who are leeching off of you and I.

I want them out.I could care less if they were Chinese, Guatemalan or Nigerian.

"you think in the name of racial fairness we should keep letting in the type of people who threaten others and scam money from institutions?"

Of course not! Don't jump to conclusions!

These criminals should be tried in a court of law and perhaps deported if they are found guilty.

That they are from another country is a sad fact about ~this~ case - but it says nothing about multiculturalism in general. To use ~this~ case to denounce multiculturalism is wrong. The vast majority of immigrants are good for canada, they work hard, pay taxes etc.

"You see racism, while most see undesirable people who are leeching off of you and I."

And that makes ~you~ (and these "others" you speak of) racist. These particular nigerians may be criminals - but that does not make ~all~ nigerians criminals.

That you see these people as "undesirable" and "leeching off of you and I" makes you racist. Unless you are speaking of the ~particular~ nigerians in ~this~ case, then you have a point.

RK Ball claimed "multiculturalism" is a problem and seemed to think this case highlighted his point. I think it just highlights his dislike for foreigners.

See you can't mention race without being called a racist. That's the way the Commies/Libs stop any dissent. The fraudsters were Nigerian from a place (Nigeria) that has a well known scam of ripping off trusting North Americans, so he called a spade a spade. What's the problem.

Anonymous said...

You have missed the point.

These "scammers" were nigerian. Tell it like it is - I'm fine with that. I don't expect you to believe me, but I'm not overly politically correct.

My issue is that RK Ball keeps denouncing multiculturalism in his various posts. It seems to be a theme of his (along with misinterpreting "climate change" to mean weather, and dissing science).

This is a clear case of racism. 2 Nigerian men are arrested and rather than discuss this ~particular~ case he simply denounces "multiculturalism" as if it's a mutlicultural goal to fill canada with criminals. It is not.

We (in Canada) desperately need our immigrants. We're not reproducing fast enough to care for the expanding senior population. Without immigrants there will be nobody working in 50 years! (That's an exageration BTW).

Because 2 nigerian men have been arrested say absolutely NOTHING about multiculturalism - it just shows that these 2 men have been accused of breaking the law. The read more into it is wrong.

The point I am making is this: Canada's official multiculturalism says that we welcome and embrace cultures distinct from our own -- hence the term, multiculturalism. In some countries, dishonesty and theft is an integral and identifiable part of the culture -- as in Nigeria. Nigerian scams are not a stereotype -- they are a cultural fact.

In theory, Canada should be welcoming Nigerian scams because they represent a cultural value and behavior distinct from our own.

Of course, we don't.

As soon as someone comes importing their own culture which is in incompatible with ours, we overrule them with the shout of "Canadian values! Canadian values!" and seek to suppress their culture.

Hence, my scorn for the concept of multiculturalism. It is laden with hypocrisy.

* * *

As for the comment regarding weather vs. climate, I understand the difference very well -- if it's hot out, it's climate, if it's cold, it's the weather.

Being opposed to multiculturalism cannot be equated with being opposed to immigration -- and to confuse the two represents very sloppy thinking. One can be pro-immigration without being pro-multicultural. And one can be anti-multiculturalism without being anti-immigration.

For what it's worth, I will be shortly making my sixth trip to Africa, to live amongst my African brothers and sisters, which is probably more than can be said of those accusing me of racism.

You don't say... I'm sure you have evidence of this right? I'll wait patiently.... because I don't believe you. I'm definitely calling BULLS*#@ on that one!

"As for the comment regarding weather vs. climate, I understand the difference very well -- if it's hot out, it's climate, if it's cold, it's the weather."

As long as you're happy being labeled 'ignorant' I don't care.

It's funny that you rail against 'climate change' (or global warming specifically I think) but are completely ignorant as to what it means. Typical of you though.... The sun shining today is "weather", the average global temperature over the past 5 years is "climate". You seem to think they are the same thing - but that's probably that creationist schooling you had. Sad really...

"I will be shortly making my sixth trip to Africa, to live amongst my African brothers and sisters"

I hope you manage to hide your xenophobia well enough..... I doubt they'd take kindly to it.

I suggest you contact the RCMP and ask them.

Alternatively, you could key in the two words "Nigerian scams" into Google, if that is not too much trouble.

They appreciate the 150 lbs of food, clothing, and books I bring each year, plus the fact that I travel each year at my own expense.

What are you doing for Africans?

BallBounces said...

Plus, the several hundreds of dollars I leave with them each year for development projects.

What are you doing for Africans?

Anonymous said...

Wow. I seem to have hit a nerve!

"you could key in the two words 'Nigerian scams' into Google"

Yeah - I did that... the results pointed to you lying. Is there a famous "nigerian scam"? Yes. Is there ~any~ evidence that scamming is a way of life in Nigeria? No.

Unless you back up your claim it will continue to look like it's BS - and that you are xenophobic (and perhaps racist too - there, I've softened my stance on the racism).

"They appreciate the 150 lbs of food, clothing, and books I bring each year, plus the fact that I travel each year at my own expense."

I got a chuckle out of this in several ways:

- I bet they do appreciate the goods you bring them... BUT, knowing you it ISN'T FREE! It will come with a HUGE dose of 'the christian god is great - let us pray', which I would argue is destructive. It's funny - you denounce multiculturalism in Canada - but travel to africa to spread YOUR culture!! Irony much?

- I can't imagine the africans caring ~who~ pays your way to africa. You slipped it into your sentence to make YOU look good and holy. Patting yourself on the back: 'look! I pay my own way. I'm great and selfless!'.
Why would they care HOW you got there?

"What are you doing for Africans?"

You got me there. I do very little for africans... but then I'm not a xenophobic racist trying to (a) impress an imaginary diety and (b) convince myself and others that I'm not a xenophobe.

Joe Agnost.

BallBounces said...

"you denounce multiculturalism in Canada - but travel to africa to spread YOUR culture!! Irony much?"

The country that I visit in Africa is a Christian country. I go there at the invitation of Christians.

"Why would they care HOW you got there?"

Because without the Christians from Canada going at their own expense, they would not be able to run their schools, orphanages, or college. Their children would not be able to go to school, would remain uneducated, and their orphans would either die or live in dire poverty. Is that a good enough set of reasons for you?

If you are interested in supporting the grade school for kids, or the orphanage, let me know.

Joe: -- was Katrina weather or climate?

Anonymous said...

"The country that I visit in Africa is a Christian country."

Only because christians forced christianity on them! They would have been happy african natives until the christians arrived and spread (by FORCE if necessary) THEIR culture.

Don't you see how that makes your multiculturalism stance for YOUR country hypocritical? You can't have it both ways!

One of the MOST despicable things organized religion has ever done to humanity is go to other cultures and convert them. It is the lowest of the low... People so desperate that the church has NO problems manipulating them for the church's own good. What a dark history you have.

"was Katrina weather or climate?"

The event was weather. The cause might have been climate change. Seeing the difference yet?

BallBounces said...

"Don't you see how that makes your multiculturalism stance for YOUR country hypocritical? You can't have it both ways!"

You have a point.

However, you apparently don't understand what multiculturalism is, and what it is not.

* It is not merely immigration.

* It is not merely immigrants bringing their own values, beliefs, and behaviors and influencing the country in a natural, might I say, evolutionary way.

* It is an official policy of the government of Canada that claims to recognize and promote the validity of all incoming cultures, supports non-Canadian cultures with tax dollars, and even, when it comes to Christianity, promotes the dismantling of the indigenous culture to accommodate these other cultures.

I find the idea that all cultures are equally good and valid to be absurd.

"One of the MOST despicable things organized religion has ever done to humanity is go to other cultures and convert them. It is the lowest of the low..."

We agree that forced conversion is bad. But conversion through persuasion and demonstration is not.

"was Katrina weather or climate?"

"The event was weather. The cause might have been climate change. Seeing the difference yet?"

I've always understood the difference.

So here's my question. If Katrina was a weather event, why did Al Gore make millions passing it off as climate change?

Anonymous said...

"I find the idea that all cultures are equally good and valid to be absurd."

That's fine. You're biased to YOUR culture and that's understandable, even normal.

And you are right about a couple of things though: I was wrong in equating multiculturalism with immigration. And I should have replaced "racism" with "xenophobia", you are (I believe) displaying xenophobia and not racism.

"But conversion through persuasion and demonstration is not."

Well that's a loaded statement. The method of "persuasion" matters a lot.

If you go into an african village and tell them that you're going to build a school - but first must complete the church, that's despicable to me. Or if you build the school but make religion a core subject then that too is bad. Providing textbooks filled with YOUR mythology and culture is also a step back for them. Teaching them to pray is also bad.

You come at this from the point of view that your religion is right. Of course ~you~ think your religion is right - but that is ~your~ feelings at work. Converting an african village to christianity might make you feel like you brought them closer to god - but you didn't. You brought them closer to ~your~ version of the god myth (of which there are MANY).

They had a culture. A perfectly fine one and capable one. Introducing them to your particular myth and (in my eyes) forcing it on them (not physically necessarily) does a terrible disservice to them... Terrible.

"If Katrina was a weather event, why did Al Gore make millions passing it off as climate change?"

Because he was (is) proposing that climate change was the CAUSE of the weather event in question. You can't be too thick to understand that... you can disagree, but the proposal (that climate change caused katrina) is a valid one. It's not necessarily true - but it's not the way you make it out to be either (switching 'weather' for 'climate' as you do).

It's a valid proposal that merits more investigation.

"I've always understood the difference."

Oh, and BTW - no you haven't. You still don't.

If you ~did~ understand the difference you wouldn't have asked your next question (about Gore).

BallBounces said...

"They had a culture. A perfectly fine one and capable one."

Which culture was that?

The one that involved cannibalism?

The one that involved exposing newborn infants to the elements to die?

The one that involved (and still does today) grandfathers having sexual rights over their granddaughters, as a cultural norm?

The one that involved (and still does today) the brother-in-laws of widows having sexual dibs on the widow, as a cultural norm?

Of course, through the darwinian looking-glass world, there can be no real morality, no objective right-and-wrong, no objective basis and criteria for judging other cultures.

It's all just subjective opinion, as you said in your last post.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I'll follow Jesus.

BallBounces said...

"Because he was (is) proposing that climate change was the CAUSE of the weather event in question.

It wasn't a proposal. It was an assertion.

How about the climate alarmists predictions that the years following Katrina we would experience increased hurricane activity -- how did that work out?

Anonymous said...

"Which culture was that?"

It doesn't matter "which", the point is that it was THEIRS.

That you ~think~ your culture was/is better than theirs is just a case of you being pompous or arrogant!

And again - I have to say it - the fact that you seem to be fine with exporting YOUR culture to other places makes your views on Canadian multiculturalism hypocritical.

"How about the climate alarmists predictions that..."

I'm having a hard time following your goal posts - could you leave them in one place for a few minutes?

We're talking about how YOU mistake "climate" with "weather" in your posts. You do it all the time and the comments in this thread underscore your lack of understanding regarding the differences between the 2 words.

If you can't understand the difference (your "Gore" question made this quite clear) you should stop commenting on it...

Note: I'm not taking sides in the global warming debate here, I'm just pointing out that you don't understand the subject at all.

BallBounces said...

When I use the weather vs. climate riff, I am doing so consciously and deliberately. It takes a certain flexibility of mind to detect and process the use of irony. Most people can readily detect and handle irony; some, with unimaginative, rigid minds, cannot.

So, rail on my friend, rail on.

And, remember, "when it's cold, it's weather; when it's hot, it's climate".

OK RK_Ball.... you're trying to save face now. Again, this is understandable.

But to suggest you were joking when you typed:

"Flint Michigan's John Tomlinson says we should pray for global warming.

How deluded is that?!

Even worse, he thinks it's cold outside !!!

Clear evidence that global warming cause insanity."

That shows that you think the fact that it's "cold outside" contradicts global warming. This is a case of you mistaking 'weather' for 'climate'.

And you do it all the time:

"Flint just broke a 95 year old record for heat. No, make that cold."

"Slovenia registered its lowest temperatures ever, as in Ev-er."

"Germany's meteorological institute is warning that metal 'earrings' on people’s bodies could freeze."

"The 10th coldest December since weather records began in the 1880s.

If someone doesn't get a handle on global warming soon, we're all going to freeze to death!"

And on and on...

The theme that ties all of these comments together? That you (rk ball) think that because it's cold outside that global warming is false.

It doesn't work that way - that it's cold outside is WEATHER, which is different from CLIMATE.

I suppose ALL those posts by you ~could~ be ironic - but you do it over and over again and never switch themes!
That's not irony - that's ignorance.

"... nothing intellectually compelling or challenging.. bald assertions coupled to superstition... woefully pathetic"
