Mr. Lewis was an atheist intellectual who was converted to Christianity. I suspect he is saying you should avoid reading works by thoughtful Christians -- like C. S. Lewis!
You should avoid works dealing with a) origins, b) purpose, c) meaning, d) the basis for morality, e) the grounding of logic and reason, f) the historicity of Christ and his resurrection.
Don't look for ultimate answers or ultimate meaning or ultimate purpose. Stick with Hawking's level of explanation.
And don't ask yourself what kind of inner void being attracted to science fiction fills.
I must admit that I am not the biggest CS Lewis fan. However when I am debating an overly aggressive anti-theist I am reminded of the title character of Lewis' book The Screwtape Letters. Poor little fellow who fails so miserably in his task of 'saving' a Christian from his Christianity.

Like me -- I just wanted to know what was true, what the truth was, whether we (humans) had purpose for existence, whether there was any chance of surviving death, or was extinction "it".
