Emergence: The Edge of Science

"Defining structure and detecting the emergence of complexity in nature are inherently subjective... scientific activities." -- Crutchfield 1994, via Wiki

"Must the synergies be perceived/observed in order to qualify as emergent effects, as some theorists claim? Most emphatically not. The synergies associated with emergence are real and measurable, even if nobody is there to observe them." --  Corning 2002, via Wiki

Let's try a switch of terminology and see how far we get:

"Defining structure and detecting intelligent design in nature are inherently subjective... scientific activities."

"Must the infusion of information be perceived/observed in order to qualify as intelligent design, as some theorists claim? Most emphatically not. The specified complexity associated with intelligent design is real and measurable, even if nobody is there to observe them." --  Corning 2002, via Wiki
