“Who is best placed to lead Canada into the economy of tomorrow?”

“Who is best placed to lead Canada into the economy of tomorrow?”

This is the carefully worded election question that Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff wants to implant in the hearts and minds of Canadians.

Two problems with it.

First, what does "best placed" party mean? The most competent? Then why not say so? Sounds like jargon. Just don't see how one party is "better placed" than the other. Isn't the party that wins the election the one that is "best placed" to lead? Wouldn't that make the Conservatives -- who are in power now -- the best placed? It's weird wording.

Second, "the economy of tomorrow". What does this mean -- tomorrow's economy? Isn't that something we create for ourselves, based on millions of individual free-market decisions? I mean, we're not the U.S.S.R., are we? We really don't need to be "lead" into it, do we? Again, weird wording, and sounds like jargon.

In fact it sounds like something you'd expect at Disneyland. Ignatieff isn't suggesting he thinks his party is Mickey Mouse is he? That would be Goofy.

The Liberals have had ten months to come up with a defining issue. The way they have worded it is just not the way normal people talk -- or think, for that matter. If this is the best they can do, they're already in trouble.

And that's the way the best-positioned-to-lead Ball bounces.

Yep, and his first move towards the fabled "economy of tomorrow" is to vote against the most popular tax credit of today, the rennovation tax credit. Good instincts, that Iggy.

Renovations lead to global warming -- they must be stopped.

Iggy is just trying to be a toned-down Obamasiah. We can do better = Yes we can. The vision is a toned-down version of "hope and change" (no price tags)! Americans are now realizing what this could mean.

Most Canadians feel that Harper is the best positioned to manage the economy of today, so Iggy is trying to pretend that he is the aging messiah manager of the economy of the future. I sure hope that Canadians see through this crap and remember adscam. We need a conservative majority so that phase two will be to CUT federal spending, big time as soon as the economy looks ok. The Liebrals will not do it.
