The Absent Mr. Iggs

Michael Ignatieff on the Campaign Trail      Image by davehuehn via Flickr
"Anyone else notice Iffy's hasty exit at the end of the post debate news conference (on CBC The National)? A reporter attempted to ask him about Layton's question regarding his voting frequency and he ran off the stage into Zzuzzanna'z arms. Imagine if Harper had done that." -- Anon, in the Ball Bounces Comments.
Iggy Ignatieff: first absent from Canada; now absent from Parliament. Reasonable question: if elected PM, will you show up?

And that's the way the Ball bounces.

Photo: unretouched photo of Iggy absent from Parliament on the campaign trail(*). Unretouched? OK, it was retouched by the Liberal Party of Canada's Dept. of Spin, Gloss and Photoshopping to remove an errant pinky.

(*)Update: The BallBounces welcomes davehuehn, the person who snapped the splendid Ignatieff photo. His unretouched comments weighing in on my (mis)use of his photo for satirical purposes, below.

I am glad Layton brought up Ignatieff's attendance record. Since the MSM can't be bothered to do basic research, good for the NDP for putting the Leader of the Opposition on notice. I am sure Jack will revel in the opportunity to be first in Question Period - at this rate, the Liberals will follow the BLOC. lol Cheers

That's my image of Iggy that you've used, and I'd like to clarify a couple things.

First, that the image HAS been retouched.

Second, that this picture was taken on the first day of the campaign - Parliament wasn't in session, he was hardly skipping out.

I'm glad my picture could be of use, but I'd rather it not be subject to such errant editorializing.

Thanks!

In the discussion re health care, didn't iggy make some comment about how much salt or something we eat.

BallBounces said...

He added that the Liberal platform also includes proposed investments in health-care prevention and promotion to reduce demand for medical services.

"We've got to get the salt, fat and sugar out of our diets folks," he said. "That's the way to make us healthier. We've all got to pull it in."

Sounds like more nanny-state totalitarianism, to me.

You've got to take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Weaselbag. I'm sorry I misappropriated your photo in the cause of political satire. I've updated the blog post -- have I amended it sufficiently? I would prefer not to remove the photo entirely, but will do so if you would prefer.

It really is an excellent photo.

Rkball - what you've done is great. I stand by licensing my photo for Creative Commons, and I appreciate that you credited me appropriately (few do)!

I wanted the description to match the photo, that's all. I'm happy to support satire (though I don't necessarily agree with your political views), and I'm pleased that you left the "Dept. of Spin, Gloss and Photoshopping" comment in.

Thanks for amending it - many would (and do) just delete my comment.

David Huehn

P.S. Thanks for the kind comments regarding the photo.
