LOL! I updated the blog post with it -- thanks! Love your postage stamp!

I have a small business and now have to travel to meet clients to pick up cheques rather than spend time working. It is annoying! For outgoing mail I don't even notice it as there are alternatives.

Thanks for the insight. I figured it would be small businesses that suffer, but hadn't thought of this.

Not in the least.

As a senior, the post office is my life line. I would truly miss it. Believe it or not, although I Email, I still write and receive letters, parcels and magazines. Lois

Thanks, Lois. Hope you are not affected.

It's a minor annoyance to me; I have alternative means of communication. For small businesses I know, though, this is seriously NOT good. For all email, Facebook, and Twitter are touted as THE way to go, most clinics aren't set up to send reminders through those media, even assuming their clients use said media. And, as RJ65 said, receiving cheques will be a problem for some businesses; paying bills for other than the major utilities is also going to be a not fun proposition.

Right.

I seem to be in a minority among Tories, but I genuinely appreciate Canada Post and hope they come to a reasonable settlement that both sides can live with.

I have about a dozen magazine subscriptions, I write and receive letters, and I order a lot of books online. A strike will delay the delivery of these, but I'll get them eventually, so I'm not too concerned.

I used to run the shipping department of a medium sized business, and I used Canada Post whenever I could. They're not as fast as the major couriers, but they're not set-up to be. Overnight you use Fed Ex, but if you can plan ahead, Canada Post is more economical.

On top of that, Canada Post isn't as hard on parcels in transport as other couriers. When I order books, be it from Amazon.ca or Abebooks, I specify that my shipments come via CP. Amazon began using UPS recently, and I have returned more than ten orders because of damage since January. Thankfully, after many e-mails back and forth with the company they now send my orders the old-fashioned way.

The biggest effect the strike will have on me is that I planned on selling some items on ebay this summer, but won't until I can offer my customers the cheaper shipping option of CP.

Finally, Canada Post has an additional benefit that they offer to bedroom communities like mine --they're another set of eyes noticing things when everyone's at work. About three years ago there were a spate of house break-ins in my area, and it was a postie's call to the cops that put an end to it.

My 2 cent stamp...

The postal service is actually quite good, excellent even.

I think the concern is more with CUPW and its toxic attitude towards the employer that provides its workers with secure jobs, and generous wages and benefits.

No settlement can be fair, because CUPW workers are already over-paid. And their pension fund is under-funded by over 3,000,000,000 dollars. I haven't been able to figure out how that happened, but taxpayers will be on the hook for it.
